Amazon’s Alexa is a virtual assistant that functions with voice interaction. This digital assistant can help you manage your daily schedule, keep a grocery list, play music, get updates on weather and even control smart home devices. The more you interact with Alexa, the smarter it becomes in recognizing voice patterns and vocabulary. Amazon has many devices where you can start interacting with Alexa like Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Echo Tap.

To set up your Amazon Echo device visit www.amazon.com/echosetup or alexa.amazon.com from any browser and sign into your Amazon account. If you don’t have an existing account, you can sign up for a new one. On the desktop, it directly leads you to the setup page. For mobile devices, you can download Alexa app from Google Play store on Android or Apple Appstore on iOS devices. Alexa app is compatible with Android 5.0 or higher versions and iOS 9.0 or higher versions only.  Make sure you have the latest version of the app to start the process of setting up the device.

The Setup process requires your device to be plugged into a power supply. From the app, menu selects ‘Set up a new device’ option and choose the available device. This will guide you with step-by-step instructions for completing the set up. The light ring on your device needs to flash an orange light to link the device with the app. Incase the light doesn't come automatically; you can press the ‘Action’ button on the device. Keep your device in close vicinity for this step. The app will prompt you to connect a customer Amazon wireless network and once this connection is established, it will allow you to choose your preferred Wifi network.

Amazon Echo Tap setup slightly differs from other Echo devices as it is a portable Bluetooth speaker. Instead of the ‘Action’ button, you need to press the Bluetooth/Wifi button on the device to connect to Alexa app. To speak to Alexa, press the Bluetooth button and speak to the device normally. You can also enable voice control on this portable speaker through voice control setup.

Once the setup is complete, Alexa app lets you customize your device by choosing a new name, changing the wake-up word, set time zone and add a local address for more relevant searches and updates. You can control your device remotely with Alexa app and access advanced functions.
